It has been a large week, full of work, of new interesting people, new friendships, a lot of new opportunities.
Beginning with the opening of PDM 2013 last Tuesday, the first product design-dedicated fair in Madrid counts with the presence of the beautiful Rossana Orlandi, the prestigious italian design gallerist, and Gisella Borioli, director of Superstudio Più.
Thanks to the good organization of 6+1 staff (even with low budget for this very first year), the fair have received a lot of attention, including magazines and press agencies, the spanish television TVE, and a lot of arts and design bloggers.
You can only imagine how happy we have been…
Mary was just a little bit upset for the low ceiling (she always needs more space and more freedom).
I always say she’s “l’enfant terrible”.
She was all the time trying to catch the attention and invading our neighbors’ space, playing with the patience of Noviembre Estudio and my new friend Norman Bouzidi.
For us it has been a test. I couldn’t imagine people’s opinion about Mary.
In a few days we have seen a big amount of people, and somebody was looking at her and passing trough without any interest, but the very most of them showed an expression resumable in this way:
-smiling, looking at me, and saying “…what is …that?”
-simply leaving their mouth open, trying to check and understand “…how does it work?”
-“Calder, right?” (with any kind of accent)
-stopping their way, talking each other and then walking really slowly to Mary (without leaving the eyes from her) and then saying “…that’s genial!”
-looking at the cunning way I attached it to the ceiling (of course most of them were architects)
-looking at me with a doubt face (something like one eye more open than the other one), asking me about the possibility of any sort of tacky adaptation of the fabric. (the result was that at the end my face was scarier than theirs)
-“supposing that I want it …ehm… how much does it costs?”
…just my friend Paloma from KA International thought about a “Tim Burton inspiration”.
But what really surprised me was that quite all of them really appreciate the functionality of Mary, the phisics+poetry power mix and the environmental friendly composition… That’s a goal!
These are the 3 points I wanted more, and it looks that all of them have been appreciated.
Concluding… I am really happy about this first feedback and all the different occasions generated by the fair. I just regret a little bit of not having explained my project as well as it deserves to Rossana Orlandi and Gisella.
Now I can keep working on what I learnt to improve my products and my consciousness of being a product designer.
I want to thank very much my sister and my dear friend Erick for all he did for me. I really appreciate it.
